The coating equipment for the Extremely Large Telescope featured on the Youtube channel of the European Southern Observatory
ESO's Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) in Chile will use five mirrors to collect light from the cosmos and redirect it to the scientific instruments that will analyse it.
See the video showing the coating plant that will keep four of those mirrors highly reflective.
The ELT's 39-m main mirror is so big that its divided into 798 hexagonal segments, which are coated with a thin layer of silver to reflect the light from the cosmos.
